It’s hard to believe that it is almost July. We’re a month through our Monday night series and 2 tournaments into the D&R Sports Series (more on tournament number 2 soon). Bass fishing has officially taken over as it should but we are finding some time to dabble in other stuff in between a couple vacations.

One other cool thing about this coming month is that the July issue of Woods-and-Water news is out. If you have seen that issue around, you might recognize a familiar face on the cover. Inside there is an article on the versatility of our drowned river mouth lakes (the ones that connect to Lake Michigan). It really is a diverse place to fish and there are so many opportunities for fun. One of the pictures I submitted with the article was a MAGNUM Muskegon Lake drum and they decided to use it for the cover. It’s a pretty cool thing for me but the best part has been many of the sincere comments I’ve gotten from it. It truly means a lot to me!

Spring Lake Freshwater Drum

Speaking of drum, we got the girls out on a Spring Lake pontoon trolling trip with a target species of drum. We landed some white bass, a largemouth, and a decent number of drum. While it wasn’t as crazy as years past they did keep us busy and Millie got the big fish of the night. A couple planer boards with flat lined Jr Thundersticks was the program. One rod cruises the breakline with the bait 50 feet back from the board and the other is fishing open water 110 feet back from the board. Usually a “chute” rod with leadcore and a spoon fished straight back is on fire too but they were not loving it on this trip.

White Lake Largemouth Bass

Monday nights have been going great. We absolutely cannot win but I am not going to complain about 2nds and thirds against that crew. We had a crazy night a few weeks ago at White Lake where we smashed them on an Alewife spawn but just came up a little short. The river has been a struggle but we’ve been making it work with the low weights. Muskegon hasn’t really worked out for us yet but hopefully we will get that going soon.
