Introducing BKK Hooks
If you’ve been paying attention the last couple years to fishing tackle, you might have noticed the name BKK floating around. Maybe you’ve heard of the OCD box? That is the first thing that caught my eye other than it seemed like premium hooks and both a fresh and saltwater presence. The OCD box is a unique way to organize your hooks based on how BKK packages them. You can check that out here.
One thing I really like about the hooks is that most of them have a super slide coating. Faster and easier hook penetration and they really seem to stick. I had a great experience with the dropshot hook last night on some solid feisty smallmouth. I never lost one and they had some crazy aerial displays. Rumor is there is another pro designed dropshot hook coming out that just won the Bassmaster Open on the St. Lawrence River too.
I’m most excited about the Armor Point Heavy Cover Flipping Hook though. The hook itself is incredibly solid but it is all the other things that really set it apart. Epoxy on the eye is a big one, I snell knot all my flipping hooks and without a weld or epoxy it just doesn’t work. I’ve also had the epoxy hold through multiple reties which is something that doesn’t always happen with other hooks I’ve tried. Next is the keeper, it’s metal which I much prefer over mono/fluorocarbon. The keeper doesn’t disintegrate into pieces after a few fish either. It’s solid and I have yet to have one come off, even with pliers in the video below.
Then you’ve got the premium treble hooks, it is so important to swap trebles on most baits for tournament use. There are a few different varieties. The Spear which is the best all around round bend style treble. The Spear EWG which is a shorter shank EWG style and will get a lot of use from me. The Hyperlatch which is a finesse style treble, think suspending jerkbaits, blade baits, small topwaters. You can swap the hooks without changing the balance of the bait. All of these hooks have the super slide coating and all are razor sharp.
The last treble hook I want to mention is the Fang 62 UA. While this one won’t see as much time on the bass baits as it is a 2X strong. It is going to be my go-to hook for jigging salmon/trout. I’ve used a bunch of different hooks in the past and never really settled on one particular hook. This has the right thickness of wire. Jigging season is getting going early this year. So if you haven’t already, start stocking up on some P-Line Laser Minnows and replacement hooks.
If you’ve been fishing Monday nights, you’ve likely got some sample hooks to try already. If not come find me at D&R this weekend and I will have some more on hand.
