Humminbird Update 5.34 and MEGA Live 2 Update 2.17

Updates, Updates, Updates! New software came out in late July and is available for Xplore, SOLIX G3, or APEX in version 5.34 (click for all update details). One thing to clear up about updates is that they do not mess with your navigation data (waypoints, tracks). It’s always important to update your units to get the best performance and other than the lack of motivation to do the update or learn how to, the fear of losing waypoints is next on the list. These updates aren’t going to wipe your nav data and neither will restoring defaults. Update time is a great time to back all those hot waypoints up on an SD card though.

One of the coolest things about this new update is the redesigned power menu. It simply pops up when you tap the power key. The ability to turn off or put all the units in the network in standby is awesome. See the video below for exactly how to do that.

Other features are a shortcut for editing your waypoint favorites and an improved MEGA Live zoom feature. I can see this zoom feature being really important for vertical jigging and also ice fishing. I’m going to try it out on some kings soon. Connectivity for Cannon downriggers is also improved if you are using your units for some big lake salmon fishing.

MEGA Live 2 also updates to version 2.17. You’ll want to do all these updates at the same time. It will improve the MEGA Live 2 display mode detection of down, forward, and landscape modes. There is also a way to manually select this stuff in the unit and I can see it being a big deal in rough water this fall. Video incoming on that and how to calibrate your MEGA Live 2 coming soon.
