Bates Hundo and E.D.C.
If you haven’t been following along with Bates Reels. I’ve got some news that is a good reason to start. But first I’ve got to tell you about the Hundo I’ve been using for a couple weeks.
If you haven’t heard of Bates before, think top of the line, no expense spared type stuff. The interesting thing about them is that they are CNC machined out of a solid piece of Aluminum. The Hundo weighs a whopping 5 ounces and comes with a dual breaking system. I’ve got mine on a TFO resolve 746 and spooled up with 15lb P-Line tactical for fishing jigs. It is a smaller reel so it is perfect for casting or light pitching duties with fluorocarbon. Watch for the Hundo’50 coming out for more heavy duty applications (or check out the G.O.A.T 150). That setup has been a pleasure to cast and fish with. The downfall is the price tag, even for serious tournament guys 375 dollars is a good chunk of change.
Enter the Bates E.D.C. Instead of CNC machined this reel starts out as die cast Aluminum. But it has the D.A.B. braking system, which uses a digital chip and electromagnetic braking to adjust cast control in real time. With no batteries or charging required! I’ve never used a reel with an electric braking system but I’m excited to try this one out. Other good news is that it is a more approachable price point at 199.99. Right or left hand and a 7:1:1 gear ratio for now. After my experience with the Hundo, I am expecting big things! D&R Sports stocks Bates Fishing reels, so if you want to shop local and feel them first hand that is the spot.
